CAI WNY HONORED AT ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Chapter Awards

During the noon general session at the national conference in New Orleans on April 26, the Community Associations Institute announced the winners of the CAI Chapter Achievement and Excellence Awards which recognize individual chapters for their outstanding achievements.  The Western New York Chapter received three awards which were accepted by Chapter Board Member, Dick Aikens and Chapter Executive Director, Karen Pomicter.

In the Chapter Management & Development category, the chapter won for the Board’s 2008 Business Plan.

In the Public Affairs category, the chapter won with a submission detailing the events surrounding the town of Amherst efforts to use the New York Homestead Act to increase taxes on condominiums.

And, thanks to all of you, our members who recognize the benefits of CAI membership and continue to support the Western New York Chapter to help win the award for Best Net Retention – 2008 – at 93%.

Individual Award

When you have a chance, join the chapter board in congratulating our President, Frank Lysiak, who won the CAI Rising Star Award.  This award goes “To an individual whose leadership abilities and professional contributions signify even greater accomplishments in the future.”

The write-up accompanying this award reads as follows:  “Frank is currently serving his second term as chapter president.  Recognizing the importance of manager education, he single-handedly legitimized the need for manager education with management company executives in his chapter and encouraged them to send their managers to M-100 classes.  He also organized study groups and, as a result, approximately 21 managers took the M-100 and went on to earn the CMCA certification.  His efforts are a reflection of his passion for excellence within the industry.”

MEMBER RECEIVES RECOGNITION

CHAPTER NEWS

Chapter Policy Number 009 – Manager Credentialing

The policy of the Chapter is to support the credential of Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA) bestowed by the Community Associations Institute NBC-CAM as the minimum standard for all persons who manage community associations in the Western New York Chapter.

While the chapter cannot enforce this standard, it recognizes the importance and value of this education and training and will encourage managers to attain this credential.  The chapter will encourage management company executives to support this effort with their employees with the expectation that new manager hires will earn their credential within one year of employment.  Finally, the chapter will encourage association boards of directors to direct their contracts to those managers who have shown a dedication to upgrading their industry skills.

This credential, which includes a continuing education requirement and recertification on a two-year basis, attests to the unique requirements of managers of community associations.

Board Approved:  3/24/08
