President’s Message: Changes for CAI-WNY

– Jean Kough, CMCA, AMS

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Katharine Smith as our chapter executive director “in training.” She will assume the role currently held by Frank Lysiak (link to article).

Change is inevitable – we all know this – within our organizations, our communities, our businesses, and our personal lives. So change comes as well to our chapter: Frank has decided to focus on his retirement.

Also within our chapter board of directors, we will be experiencing changes. Several board members, myself included, have reached the maximum number of years we can serve. So 2018 also will bring three new board members to help move our chapter forward.

Although some people may view these changes as unnecessary, it does provide us with an opportunity to welcome new leadership, new ideas, and new systems. It’s an opportunity to embrace social media, such as Facebook, and even question some existing practices that may not be required any more or that don’t help move us forward.

With that said, we would like you to take a greater role in our chapter by reaching out by phone, email or personal visit to our board of directors, Frank Lysiak, or me with any ideas you may have for improving our chapter: program suggestions, locations, or meeting topics.

As in the past, our board of directors plan to participate in the various programs, including the Rochester and Buffalo events that will be held in October 2017. We all look forward to meeting with you personally to discuss any opportunities that you foresee into 2018 and beyond.

Thank you for your continued support!
