President’s Message

A report card for CAI-WNY

– Jean Kough, CMCA, AMS

I would like to wish all our CAI Chapter members happy holidays as we bring 2016 to a close!

This was the first year of my term as president of CAI-WNY and I want to thank to all of you for making it such a great year. Every year we strive to bring you our best programs and exceed previous attendance: Participation for 2016 was more than 550 attendees, beginning with How to Deal with Difficult Situations in Buffalo, followed by the Legal Forum Panel in Rochester, our Annual Meeting & Trade Show in Buffalo, the 5th Annual Trade Show in Rochester, and concluding with the Board Leadership Development Workshop in Rochester.
This past year we asked attendees to rate each of those programs on a scale based from 1 to 10 (with 10 rating as “excellent” and 1 as “poor”). We asked you to rate three basic criteria: location (convenience and functionality of venue), food (quality of food and service), and program (topic, speakers, the Q&A session, and time allotted).

Our board of directors reviews your input to these surveys and take into account your comments – we try to incorporate your responses to help us improve future programs.

Let me share a summary of the 2016 survey results: location received 98.4% very good to excellent; food was rated 91.6% very good to excellent; – and most importantly – programs received 96.4% very good to excellent.

I want to thank our sponsors for their support; they frequently play a dual role by providing business acumen and expertise for our programs as well as their financial support.

When we review our annual budget, the board of directors has consistently recognized that the “cost of admission” for our volunteer board members needs to be affordable. That’s why the price for members has never exceeded $40 per person and, generally, there is only a $5 surcharge for non- members.

Based on our 2016 annual budget, we relied on our generous chapter sponsors for approximately 50 percent of the cost of program materials, postage, food, beverage, and room/facility charges.

Thanks to all of you who participated in our programs during 2016, especially the many speakers, sponsors, and our board of directors. I look forward to 2017 and seeing all of you at an upcoming chapter program!
