We’ve got a great year planned for you!

Since we are going to press at the close of 2016, I’d like to extend best wishes for a Happy New Year in 2017. This past year was quite a success: particularly based on your support and participation in the annual trade shows held in Buffalo and Rochester. A special thanks to the Crofton Management team for their support; this was their fifth successful Rochester trade show. Great job!

In addition to the trade shows, plans are being finalized to offer legal forums in Buffalo and Rochester in the upcoming year. Last year’s event, hosted by Kenrick Corporation at the Monroe Golf Club, was a great success; we had almost 100 attendees and an outstanding panel of attorneys. Two other programs we are planning for 2017 will cover insurance and reserve funding, both of which are important topics for condominium and homeowner associations.

If you have a topic that you think would be of interest to our members, please do not hesitate to contact me or a board member.

We are also putting together two training programs for 2017. These were developed by CAI-National so that volunteer board members and community managers are provided with the most up-to-date information.

Thanks to the support of Realty Performance Group, we “test marketed” the Board Leadership Development workshop in Rochester last year. It is intended for volunteer board members and provides a half day orientation in a range of topics, including accounting, legal issues, and meeting management, plus roles and responsibilities of board members. Thank you to our workshop presenters: Bonnie Gionta, First Niagara Risk Management; Mike Boychuk, Bonn, Dioguardi & Ray LLP; Ronald Shubert, Phillips Lytle, LLP; Jean Kough, CMCA, AMS, CAI-WNY president; and Bob Marvin, president, Realty Performance Group.

In March 2017 we will offer another training program, the Professional Management Development Program #202, Association Communications, which is designed for community management/manager members. This program provides an overview of general communications, essential elements and types of communication, customer service, internal and external communications, and media relations; it will be conducted by a certified instructor from CAI- National.

It’s our goal to hold at least four to six programs between the two markets (Buffalo and Rochester), covering the topics mentioned above, at a range of venues.
